Touch down in the land of the pink taxis

Getting settled

overcast 30 °C

Now that was one long flight with Briitish Airways. I think it was eleven hours in total with a layover in Heathrow of 4 hours and to be honest the more I do long haul flights the more allergic I get. It didn't help that I had overindulged in the BA diner.Word from the wise, eat lightly. I must of thought I'd never get a proper bite again for months. Oh, the internal pangs of a greedy traveller.

The airport was surprisingly quiet, a drastic change from the madness of Heathrow. There were no hasslers though we were nearly ripped off by a taxis company with a desk at the airport who tried to charge us by 900 baht! The taxi we decided on in the end was tight and clammy. A beautiful pink number that Elton John would love though it bordered on the look of the inside of St Brigid's Well, Liscannor. It was filled with paraphenalia... beautiful clusters of plaitic flowers and little metal bouncy figures that bounced high and higher as we cruised down the motorway to our destination The Trendy Condoninium no less! The apartment we sourced through Airbnb is ideal. It's right in the heart of Bangkok and safe a major relief. Our patience was tried when Richie locked all our belongings in the safe but couldn't open the system after 50 attempts. we may never get out of here! Richie is excelling at the Thai language and has taken to communicating with me through this softly spoken twang! I'll keep you posted on how his language progresses.

So where to now.... maybe a soak in the swimming pool.. a visit to a local temple? They are everywhere. It's another day after a long sleep and the reality hits. We are just at the start of our big adventure- happy days. It's off to the Height we go, Richie is in search of a pair of Speedos! Amen to that!

I started reading the entry thinking WOW Richie must have taken a high level course in English as it was so well written and then discovered he isn't writing it at all........... And he told us HE had the blog. Good job Niamh - keep it up

Won't be doing anything in a hurry Nev - we put our passports and bank cards into the safe in the room and the bloody thing won't open. The owner has had to summon somebody to bust open the safe. Hopefully we'll be up and running in the morning. We ended up blagging a free meal from a curry house next door to the building. What a start!!
